These trips are run by PowderWeGo, the parent company of your ski school in Val d'Isère, and you travel with the same team. There comes a winter when you feel like skiing somewhere new, down to the sea in a Norwegian fjord or behind a snowcat in the Altai. Here is where we go together, and for a few days or a week closer to home, our ski weekends and trips from Val d'Isère are the place to start.

Japan, Hokkaido

In Hokkaido, you go freeriding and ski touring through the forests around Niseko, with Mount Yōtei, a symmetrical volcano, on the skyline. At the end of the day you unwind in the onsen, then sit down to the finesse of Japanese cooking.

Norway, the Lofoten Islands

On the Lofoten Islands, you go ski touring from the summits all the way down to the sea, and stay in rorbuer, the brightly painted fishermen's cabins of the archipelago. Some evenings, at dusk, the northern lights come out to the song of the whales.

Norway, the Bodø Alps

In the Bodø Alps, a large sailing boat is your base: you go ashore on the beach for a full day of ski touring, then come back aboard for dinner and the night. A hot shower every day and a drying cupboard for your ski boots are part of life on board.

Svalbard, Spitsbergen

Our ski and sail expedition to Svalbard heads from Longyearbyen towards Ny-Ålesund aboard the Noorderlicht, under the midnight sun. You step ashore at the foot of the mountain and come back aboard after each descent, in the deep quiet of the polar north.

Greenland

In Greenland, you go ski touring around the Fjord of Eternity, from a sailing boat out of Maniitsoq. Among the icebergs, some summits of over 2,000 metres drop straight into the sea.

Iceland, Tröllaskagi

In Iceland, on the Tröllaskagi peninsula near Akureyri, a helicopter sets your group down on a summit each day, and you carry on from there on skis and skins. You stay in a seaside lodge with a chef, a sauna and a hot tub, and in early April the light falls on the fjords through its picture windows.

Antarctica

Our ski and sail expedition to Antarctica sets out from Punta Arenas, sails past Cape Horn and crosses the Drake Passage to the Antarctic Peninsula. The Zodiac lands you at the foot of the slopes, with penguins below your lines and whales and orcas close by.

Canada, Whistler

In Whistler, two hours north of Vancouver, you head into the British Columbia backcountry for full days of freeride and ski touring, with a picnic in your pack. Back in the village, which hosted the 2010 Winter Olympics, you have its restaurants and shops for the evening.

USA, Jackson Hole

In Jackson Hole, in the United States, you head out for off-piste skiing and freeride touring. You spend your days skiing at the foot of the Tetons.

Kazakhstan, the Altai

In Kazakhstan, around Ridder in the Altai, the snowcat climbs while you take in the view, then sets you down at the top of an untracked face. The Siberian powder of December is cold, dry and as light as icing sugar, and the evening ends in the warmth of the lodge or a traditional dacha, over Kazakh cooking.

Turkey, the Kaçkar Mountains

In Turkey, you go heliskiing in the Kaçkar Mountains above the Black Sea, from the traditional village of Ayder. The days are given over entirely to heliskiing, and the evening ends in a traditional Turkish bath.

Italy, the Dolomites

In the Dolomites, you go ski touring and off-piste from the Sella to Cortina, among the Monti Pallidi, the "pale mountains". The welcome is Italian, and so are the traditional cooking and the fine wines at the end of the day.

Austria, the Tyrol

In the Tyrol, you go ski touring from the Pitztal to the Silvretta, on the glaciers of Austria, with a crossing into Switzerland by Piz Buin. In the evening come hearty cheese dishes and the traditional liqueurs of the Alps.

Mont Blanc safari: France, Italy, Switzerland

The Mont Blanc safari takes you across three countries and four valleys, from the Tarentaise to the Aosta Valley, the Upper Valais and Chamonix. Off-piste by day and fine dining by night, with Italian dolce vita in the Aosta Valley, a touch of Swiss luxury in the Valais and a taste of the French art of living.
